Bheemeshwari is the city's closest honest wilderness: a stretch of the Cauvery framed by dry-deciduous hills, once famous among anglers for the mighty mahseer and now run as low-key adventure and nature camps.
It is the easiest reset on this list — leave after breakfast, be on the river by noon.
When to go
October to May. Post-monsoon (October–January) is greenest; summer mornings are still lovely on the water.
Getting there
100 km from Bengaluru via Kanakapura — a genuine 2-hour escape, best begun early.
What matters here
The river, three ways
Kayak the flats, spin a coracle, then zipline back across the water.
Grizzled giant squirrels
This valley is one of their strongholds — watch the tamarind crowns.
Riverside nights
Tented camps, bonfires, and a sky Bengaluru forgot existed.
Eat & drink
Camp kitchens do simple well — ragi mudde lunches, barbecue nights, endless lemon tea.
The local tip
The Cauvery's crocodiles are real residents — swim only at the camp-marked coves, never off the rocks.
