Munnar's terraces were laid out by planters in the 1880s and the geometry still astonishes: clipped tea in rolling waves from valley floor to cloud line, stitched with shade trees and silver waterfalls.
At 1,600 metres the air is cool year-round, the light changes hourly, and the best thing to do is the simplest — walk into the tea with a flask and no plan.
When to go
September to May. December–January mornings are crisp and mist-prone (bring a real jacket). Monsoon is beautiful and wet.
Getting there
Kochi airport is 3.5–4 hours by winding road. The drive up through spice country is part of the trip.
