Mysuru wears its royal history lightly: a working palace at the centre, wide boulevards planned a century ago, and crafts — silk, inlay, incense — still made the slow way.
It is the ideal first stop of any Karnataka circuit and the gentlest weekend in the south: walkable, unhurried, endlessly photogenic.
When to go
Year-round pleasant. October is Dasara — ten days of processions, lights and full hotels; book far ahead or aim either side.
Getting there
3 hours from Bengaluru by expressway or the excellent Shatabdi/Vande Bharat trains; Mysuru has its own small airport.
